LANGUAGE OF MARITIME ENGLISH: Standard of Training Certification and Watch Keeping for Seafarers and Intercultural Communication Based is a comprehensive course book designed to meet the students’ needs who study English as a specific subject or English used at work place in the maritime world or whoever wants to study the nature of Maritime English (ME). This course book is designed and developed in line with the Standard of Training Certification and Watch Keeping for Seafarers (STCW)’95 and Manila STCW amendment 2010 qualification and intercultural communication notes.

Standard of Training Certification and Watch Keeping for Seafarers (STCW) sets the standards for training, certification, and watch keeping for seafarers serving on seagoing merchant ships. These standards are regulated and set by International Maritime Organization (IMO) based in London, England. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for regulating international shipping and promoting safety, security, and environmental protection within the maritime industry. The standards respond the real world of maritime industry which is inherently characterized by multiple cultural backgrounds. The global nature of shipping means that vessels are often staffed by crews comprised of individuals from diverse nationalities and cultural backgrounds.
